“Hey, this is Dr. Jaffa. He’s our local ultrasound guru…”

I honestly can’t count the number of times I’ve heard this exact phrase, and I’m absolutely positive I’m not alone in this experience. For some reason, whenever people think of “person who is obsessed with POCUS and ostensibly good at it”, the word that immediately comes to mind is “guru”. I don’t know why, but that fact kinda irks me.

Like others, I’ve become enamored with several other options over the years, and tried to push them on my colleagues with ultimately low rates of success - “ultrasound wizard”, “ultrasound master”, “ultrasound genie”, “mentat POCUS” (okay, I just made that last one up on the spot) - but the one I think I identify with the most is “Ultrasound Jedi”. I’m guessing that has something to do with my history as diehard Star Wars nerd.

Anyway, thanks to my very good Twitter-friend Ian Coe for the inspiration to put this little piece together. Without further ado, I give you the Emblem of the Knights of the POCUS Jedi Order. 🌟✨
